Getting to Thailand has never been easier. Bangkok is a hub for air services in South East Asia and is connected to most parts of the world by direct flight services.
It is also accessible by overland border crossings with it’s neighbouring countries, Malaysia, Myanmar, Lao and Cambodia, if you are traveling by road.
The luxurious International Express Train links Bangkok with Kuala Lumpur, capital city of Malaysia, for one of the world’s great, scenic train journeys.
You can also reach Thailand by boat from the Malaysian resort island of Langkawi to the Thai coastal town of Satun.
A 30-day Tourist Visa is issued to most nationalities*, free of charge, on arrival at any of Thailand’s international airports (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hat Yai) or a land border crossing.
It is possible to extend this type of visa once in Thailand for 10 days, for a fee, at the Immigration Office.
To extend a 30-day visa for longer, just leave the country and come back in, even on the same day, to get issued with a new 30-day visa.
If you apply at a Thai embassy before you leave home, you can get a 60 day Tourist Visa for a fee.
The cost of visas for Thailand changes with enormous regularity so check with your local embassy for the most up-to-date price.
* If you come from West Africa, South Asia, Latin America or Eastern Europe, check with the Thai embassy in your country regarding visa requirements.
