Ackawi

(Redirected from Ackawi cheese)

Ackawi is a white cow's milk cheese, native to Palestine, a city called Akka where the cheese gets its name from, meaning from akka (ackawi). It is also spelled Akawi and Akawieh. Ackawi is a Middle Eastern style of cheese. It is a semi-hard cheese with a smooth texture and a mild salty taste. Commonly used as a table cheese, it is good by itself or paired with fruit.

This cheese is now produced in many countries, and is especially popular around the Middle East. It is one of the best-selling cheeses among Arab-Americans. It is a popular cheese in the United States.

Many Palestinian families have developed their last name from the City of Akka, most famously is the Family " Akkawi", who have family members in Jordan and the USA.
