Babcock University
Babcock University is a private Nigerian university owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria. This pioneer private university is located equidistant between Ibadan and Lagos. The institution was named after American missionary David C. Babcock who, in 1914 pioneered the Seventh-Day Church Work in Nigeria.
Babcock University subsumed the Adventist College of West Africa (ACWA) established in 1959 but whose name changed in 1975 to Adventist Seminary of West Africa (ASWA). The university was officially chartered on April 20, 1999.
Babcock University's academic program is currently organized among four faculties (Colleges): the Faculty of Education and Humanities, the Faculty of Law and Security Studies,the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Science and Technology.
The Faculty of Education and Humanities offer degrees in the disciplines of English Studies, French Studies, Guidance and Counseling, History and International Studies, Information Resources Management, Mass Communication, and Theology. The Faculty of Law and Security Studies offers a degree in the discipline of International Law and Diplomacy. The Faculty of Management and Social Sciences offer degrees in the disciplines of Accounting, Banking and Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Marketing, Political Science, Public Administration. The Faculty of Science and Technology offer degrees in the disciplines of Computer Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Agriculture, Public Health and Nursing.
Aiming at leading the newly rebranded institution into the next level of global development connectivity with a sharpened focus on a new vision, a new leadership was appointed at the University Council in February 2006 with Prof. J.A. Kayode Makinde as President(Vice Chancellor)CEO. Assisting him are committed professionals in various areas of responsibility including Vice Presidents :Chimezie A. Omeonu (Academic Admin); David O. Babalola(Management Services);Shem Magaji (Enrolment Services & Records); Luke N. Onuoha(Finance); Olukunle Iyanda(Development & Strategy); Vincent E. Unegbu(Information Resources & Library); Janet O. Ola(Student Affairs).
The university also hosts a local research centre of the Ellen G. White Estate.
