Blaggers I.T.A.

BLAGGERS I.T.A were an agitpop punk band noted for their strong anti-fascist and left wing songwriting formed by Matty Blagg, who had been introduced to Marxism whilst in prison.

The band formed in 1988 and developed a strong fanbase in the early 1990's with their songwriting and passionate live performances. The band had a number of top 50 singles in 1993 and 1994. They signed to EMI (to the disgust of some indie purists) and enjoyed moderate success until they were dropped from the label in 1994.Another setback was having their biggest supporting tours cancelled after singer Matty Blagg punched journalist Dave Simpson 1993 causing him injury. The matter ended in a Court case. Confirmation needed

The band released three albums but could be said to be overshadowed by other political bands of the time such as Chumbawamba and Credit to the Nation. Nonetheless the band are fondly remembered among fans of the genre.

Singer Matty Blagg died in February 2000.
