Callendar effect

The Callendar effect is a name for the effect of combustion-produced carbon dioxide on the global climate. It is therefore a special case of the greenhouse effect. The size of the Callendar effect is a controversy in global warming.

The Callendar effect is named for Guy Stewart Callendar, who proposed the effect in 1938. He was the son of Hugh Longbourne Callendar (1863-1930), an English physicist. Among HL Callendar's inventions was a rolling-chart thermometer that allowed long-duration collection of climatic temperature data.
