Dek Island is the biggest island in Lake Tana.It has some old monastries.The island is approx. 16 square km.The number of inhabitants is approx. 17000.There is no regular transportation between Dek Island and the shore.On irregular base once a week a boat is going to Dek Island.Tourist must be lucky to visit Dek Island, or they have to rent a boat.

Since transportation is irregular the life on Dek Island is behind the rest of Ethiopia. The schools are to Ethiopian standars poor. The only clinic has been closed.
