The flag of Lithuania was adopted on March 20, 1989. The same colours had previously been used by the inter-war independent state of Lithuania, from 1918 to 1940, but then in the ratio of 2:3. From 1989 to 2004 the ratio was 1:2, the same used for the Soviet Lithuanian flag.

As from September 1, 2004, the ratio was changed to 3:5.

The yellow in the flag is meant to symbolize the tan fields of Lithuania, the green is for the green countrysides, and the red represents all the blood that was shedfor Lithuania.

CMYK values for colours are:Yellow: C0; M30; Y100; K0.Green: C100; M55; Y100; K0.Red: C25; M100; Y100; K0.
