Galactagogue
A galactagogue is a substance, typically a herb, that increases lactation. The most commonly used herbal galactagogues are fenugreek, brewer's yeast, blessed thistle, and alfalfa; others include anise, astragalus root, burdock, nettle, fennel, flax, vervain, and marshmallow root. According to the Talmud, the drinking of wine will increase the quantity and quality of breast milk. Medications that can increase milk supply are also available, usually by medical prescription.
