Henry Sloan
Henry Sloan was one of the earliest known blues musicians. Little is known about him and there are no existing recordings of him. He is recognized as the tutor and inspiration for the blues artist Charlie Patton, who was known to "dog every step" of Sloan. [1]. One possibility is that Sloan was the mysterious hobo observed by musician W.C. Handy playing guitar at a train station in the early 1900s. He made great contributions to modern music, and yet the details of his life can only remain a matter of speculation.
Life
Very little is known about the life of Henry Sloan. He lived in Indianola, Mississippi around the turn of the century. The only other facts that can be stated about his life is that he tutored Charley Patton in the ways of the blues and moved to Chicago shortly after World War I.
