The Boulevard Christmas Lights Display

One of Ivanhoe's most renowned features is the annual Christmas lights on its Boulevard. Every year, many hundreds of dollars are spent on the extravaganza that attracts a great many residents of Melbourne to have a look. The display was started by George Whitelaw in the 1950s. Normally, in the week before Christmas, this suburban street is enclosed in a grid-lock as it attracts over 100 000 people over the nine day period of its display. It is commonly recognised as one of the most impressive Christmas displays throughout Melbourne, with many residents making it an annual visit.
