San Francisco hardcore
San Francisco had a hardcore punk music scene that was a bit more humorous and playful than other, more raw scenes of the 1980s. Unlike most scenes, the San Francisco hardcore scene went on with little local conflict due to the city's liberal culture. Even the local chief of police was said to be a hardcore fan.The two most notable bands of the scene were Dead Kennedys and Flipper. The Dead Kennedys, along with Los Angeles's Black Flag became the commonly known hardcore bands, though they were still unknown to mainstream America.
