Murder conviction
In 2003, Boots was convicted of first-degree murder for shooting Laura Banuelos ("Crystal"), the vice-president of Los Angeles-based Transgeneration 2000. The shooting occurred outside West Hollywood's "Yukon Mining Restaurant".
Boots, who was a featured performer at the West Hollywood transgendered "Club 7969", formerly known as "Peanuts," shot Banuelos in the chest and the head. The shooting occurred as a result of an escalating, weeks-long argument between the two as to which of them was the more beautiful.
