The Gambia Scout Association
The Gambia Scout Association, the national Scouting organization of Gambia, was founded in 1921, and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1984. The coeducational Gambia Scout Association has 18,422 members as of 2004.
Special activities include community service projects such as tree planting. Scouts regularly participate in camping and hiking. Music is also a very important part of scouting in The Gambia but because they dont have much money for instruments and sheet music, there is a waiting list to get into the scout band and they learn all there music by ear.
Girl Guiding
Girls in Gambia are served by The Gambia Girl Guides Association, with 9,371 members (as of 2003). Founded in 1923, the girls-only organization became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1966.
