Aitken Wing
Aitken Wing is a hall of residence full of lively individuals who attend lectures in the University of Birmingham. The designer of the Aitken wing hall of the residence had no idea of the colour scheme for the walls, where pink and yellow are the fashion of the whole building resembling 'a sexual health clinic' as one resident described. Although, the aesthetics aren't pleasing.... the students who live in it have the best attitude to life.... socialising whenever they see fit and work is at its low priority at the start of the year. The students of aitken's wing are resourceful in making new games such as drinking games like the "ring of fire." Although, you may feel that Aitken wing is extremely active, it is a nice place to live where all the students are kind and relatively docile. Overall, it is an adequate place to live.
One mentionable character or legend to mention, known to many residents of Aitken Wing is that of 'Guns' or 'Aitken One' as he is often to be known. Named 'guns' for his appearance, he was often at the centre of antics, socialising and due to his perverse tendencies became infamous throughout Aitken Wing. Studying geography at the University of Birmingham, 'Guns' was a explosive character often adopting what some people would call entertaining characteristics. Yet it was at night that 'Guns' really shone, with his work for Anti-Social Behaviour and his alcoholic stance in order to help others feel more relaxed in their environment.
Chamberlain
The architect who designed Chamberlain must have been stoned whilst he was drawing up the original plans as seventeen people share the same bathroom on one of the floors. In the past Eden Wing of Chamberlain Hall was the centre of attention due to its dilapidated state. Today it very much resembles a 1960's high rise tenement block. Chamberlain Hall was officially declared 'unsafe' for students as of November 2006, and plans were drawn up for the forced eviction of all residents by the 22nd December. The reasons for this included the fact that everyone living above floor seven was in 'severe' or 'extreme' risk of perishing should a fire break out in any part of the building.
Elgar Court
Residents of the aforementioned Chamberlain hall look up to Elgar Court with feelings of admiration and jealousy. The very name 'Elgar' conjures up connotations of wealth and grandeur harkening back to the luxury life of the 20th century composer who spent most of his days living in a palatial residences in the posh area of Hampstead, London. Indeed, Elgar Court matches this luxury. All students have en-suite facilities including brand new power showers. Rooms are modern, spacious, carpeted and finished with blue-beige wall colours. Students have often said that their beds are 'more comfortable' than at home, and all flats are fitted with modern, top of the range cooking facilities in the kitchens, resembling those available in top restaurant cuisines in Birmingham city centre.
