Vatsa
Vatsa (also knowns as Vamsa, Batsa, or Bansa) was one of the sixteen Mahajanapadas (great kingdoms) of Uttarapatha, in what is now modern India.
Vatsa's geographical location was near the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. Its capital was Prayaga (Koushambi), now near the modern city of Allahabad.
During Gautama Buddha's period it was ruled by King Udayan. The Buddha visited Koushambi several times on his effort to spread his dharma, the Eightfold Path and the Four Noble Truths. The king was also an Upasaka (lay follower).
